Today in caledon we were talking about local idioms. I used the word "Brit" because I guessed most people in caledon would be unfamiliar with the word "pom" and have been muted. I had no idea that shortening for ease of typing "Brittish" to "Brit" meant anything to anyone.
I am not totally up to speed with the terms of conduct in sl, but people seem fairly reluctant to do direct quotes. So essentially he said I am not funny because the people who invented the word "Brit" paid for the bomb that nearly killed him. And added "mute fotherington"
I can only say I am totally and utterly flabbergasted.
My "ROFLOL" was not in response to anything he said, it referred to someone else, for what it is worth.
My feelings are hurt. So what. Hope his day is better because of it.
PS. I do apologise for the unintended hurt. And as usual, I offer olive branches and all that stuff. I came to SL for friendships.

Don't beat yourself up too much. Some folks just have their tails across the path!
We have all done it. I just take it as a reminder to be more patient when someone says something that irritates me :)
Besides, I figured all you Aussies had thick skin :)
Brit is a slur?
Hmmm, I know some Londoners; I'll have to ask. My curiosity is piqued.
After having discussed the alleged slur with the Muter before heading off to work I decided to take an impromptu poll with the Citizens of New Babbage when I arrived home (that being afternoon for the UK crowd). Not a single respondent felt insulted by or had heard of anyone being insulted by being called a Brit. In fact one said that she would be insulted by the Muter's preferred choice of Briton. I argue that the Britons are for all intents and purposes extinct anyway, being the pre-Roman celtic inhabitants of the islands.
Suffice to say I will not be withdrawing "Brit" from my vocabulary. I believe with this exception the UK residents prefer it to Pommie Bastards anyway.
As a Brit I have never, ever heard anything so daft! Brit is just not an insulting term and has never been used as one. Either the person involved has some strange bee up their behind or they don't like you and are looking for an excuse to mute - either way, you sound better off without them.
Brit? Jeez! Honestly, I ask you...
:) well it is all settled now! Whether Brit is or is not insulting, peace has been made, so I refuse to be miserable any more on this subject :)
