Stuff from Thursday

Tanglewood, consolidation and little things.
First off, if you can listen while you read, go to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tHEGo-g3mw
and listen to From Little things Big Things Grow.
I happen to like this song. You dont have to, but I guess if you listen to it while you read then it will be a similar effect to when I wrote it! (Though mine is an album version and has Ernie Dingo playing a piece of plastic pipe for a didgeridoo!)

I am not about to climb too far into my navel right now but will write briefly on the latest change to land holdings in sl.
Today I gave away the block of land at Steelhead. It has been on my mind for a couple of months now. I simply dont get to Steelhead often enough to feel my roots are there. I have flittered in and out of a couple of dances, but with time scant enough to barely open my mouth before I have had to tp out again.

My real life gets more complicated and the thing is that I take my sl communities seriously. I looked at how things were and decided I was simply trying to spread myself too thin. I loved the spot in Steelhead, but I hated leaving it as an empty building, even if it was a shop. I don't like empty sims.
One of the things I like about Southend is the constant flow of people and a steady of regulars.
(Audrey Fotherington waves at the yellow spot on the mini map that is Alastair Whybrow)
I don't like being a contributing factor to another sim being the sort of place I dont like. The sterile wastelands of pretty but unpopulated sl.

So I decided to let the block go. I struggled with the 'how to' part of it. I didn't want to pass it to just anyone, and I didn't want to waste my life trying to sell something that had already repaid me in pleasure what it had cost me to buy. The challenge then was to find someone deserving.
I didn't want to yell.."block for free" as I was sure that would attract the sort of tenant that might not be the best for Steelhead down the track. Finally today I got a nibble to my call for some one to take over caring for my block. And it was Lunar enquiring on behalf of some one else. I was delighted because if he was enquiring then he must approve of the person. 15 minutes later it was all handed over. The only thing I asked of her was that when she has had enough of the block, could she be as generous to the next person.
I wont check, or mind if she doesn't, but I like to hope that the random acts of kindness that have fallen my way in SL, which I have tried to pass on, will continue to trickle through.

So I consolidate my future into Caledon. Taz and I added to our holdings and finally bought a block of land in Tanglewood from Starlight Vandeverre. At the moment we don't really have a grand plan. Maybe a tree house? gardens? Bunnies who worship you?

So for the time being, I am throwing tree trunks around. I have rezzed the punkin home and taz has installed his phone booth.

Home sweet Home!

The news is good.....

There is no cancer!

One of those times when I felt happy in an academic way but a little too shell shocked initially to feel anything but exhausted.
But it is wonderful fabulous news and Audrey put on a party frock and blew up balloons to celebrate.

Meanwhile I continue to fool around on the building at Steelhead. I have popped up a couple of simplified dresses on manequins and have used up the vast majority of the prims I have allotted. Ahhh what a familiar tune :))

Building Building Building

I have been keeping myself busy .. extremely busy.
I have not at all been sure of what I am doing with the land at Steelhead. It seemed sort of sad that I was neglecting it.. so today I put together 2 thoughts.
Thought 1. I am enjoying making tiny dresses
Thought 2. What building should I build next? and
Thought 3. What to do with Steelhead....
Ahh three thoughts. Not two.
Oh well actually when it comes down to it I was actually thinking of a whole lot more as well. Tomorrow the results come back from Pathology. But that is another story completely!

So!
I spent the afternoon building a shop to replace the light house in Steelhead. I regret taking the light house down as it is quite my favourite building. But the shop is bright and cheerful and open. I need a bit of that.

While building I talked with Eleanor and she gave me some clues on a name and I massaged it a little and I have now a business name for tiny things. My immediate plans are obviously Tiny Dresses. But I can imagine making a few bits of furniture and so on eventually.

Then I spent the evening making vendor boards. As the evening progressed I improved a little and if I totally run out of things to do I will go back and re-do the early evening ones. (So unlikely it is laughable to even suggest this :)
)

Anyway it was a good way to keep my mind busy and I am happy with the results. If you want to check out the work to date, here is the SLURL

Flooding at Steelhead

I arrived in world to hear cries of calamity.
Steelhead was awash.

The seas flooded in and crashing on our door steps. Nature unsettled, things washed ashore and others set adrift!

Kind Tensia lent me a boat to sail.

It sank though, then vanished before I had nearly enough fun!

Thank goodness I have built the lighthouse high on rocks, only the cushions on my outdoors chair were ensoggened.

Steelhead

I guess I didn't land in Steelhead with as much noise as I have landed at my other homes.
I have chronicled the various moves I have made around sl and how I ended up living in Caledon Southend. Now I just need to add how the circle has been completed with my arrival in Steelhead :)
Back when I first went house hunting I found a block of land at Wyre and a block of land at Steelhead. I was torn. Couldn't decide which way to jump.
I met Krystine Qinan while I was wandering around and she invited me along to one of the Steelhead town meetings. What an outrageous event that was. I had never seen anything so funny in sl.

I cant even rem
ember what decided me in the end. I loved the community at Steelhead, but Wyre had a quiet wildness. I chose Wyre. History happens, I moved and moved, and ended up in Caledon.
In the lead up to Christmas, I was feeling a little overwhelmed by Southend. So much going on, so many people passing by. I loved it, but I needed a little space. I guess I was also feeling a bit confined after being used to the freedom and space of Fathom. Anyhow, I heard on the wind that a new sim was being added to Steelhead, and there is some charm in being an early settler so I found myself a spot and waited for it to be ready. Meanwhile I ran home to Southend, erected a sky platform and began building a light house. You can see a picture of it in the blog entry for 30th January.Soon as the block was ready I dropped the light house on it and there it is, looking mighty handsome in my opinion.
Since the end of Christmas crazy, I dont seem to need the Steelhead house so much and have turned it into a shop. Today someone bought the first thing from it!
Another first- today I got myself to the town meeting. This is the first time I have managed to stay for a whole meeting as normally I am at work.
The meeting is chaired by Fuzzball, who I think deserves a medal.

Let me say this: They are stark raving mad
I have nothing further to add.

Christmas Preparations

It occurs to me that a year ago I was homeless. I had read of a competition to win a block of land in Caledon Tamrannoch. The rules required a note card stating why you would like to own the block. Writing that note card made me consider some things I hadn't considered. And also set me to really wanting something I had never had any ambition to have.

So define what I wanted then? I really, plain and simply wanted somewhere to stick my things out. To decorate the landscape with a bit of Audrey.

Well I didn't win the block of land. But I did realise that I was now placing a value on having a place of my own. I went on a hunt that went from Caledon to Steelhead and the to Wyre. Reading through the blog all the way back to the beginning you will meet me at that moment.

So here I am 12 months later. I have moved a few times, fallen in and out of love and had to move on. Wyre, then Winterfell are behind me now. And Steelhead has popped up once more after I settled in Caledon.

Home in sl has come to mean a lot more than some where to decorate. As I set up my Christmas decorations, hang the cards I have received and we send out our own I am reflecting on home. The homes in sl are about a place in the community. An anchor. It defines me. represents me when I am not online. Stuff like that. if it wasn't 1 am I guess I would prattle more. But I am too tired to type any more! Goodnight!
